In a massive leap toward environmental sustainability and self-reliance, our school is proud to announce its official transition from the national grid (KPLC hydroelectric power) to a fully integrated Solar Power System.
This transition marks the beginning of a cleaner, greener era for our entire school community.
Why the Switch?
While hydroelectricity from KPLC has powered our classrooms for decades, the move to solar energy aligns with our school’s mission to foster sustainability and reduce our carbon footprint.
Here is what this exciting shift means for our school:
Eco-Friendly Footprint: By harvesting the sun's energy, we are drastically cutting our greenhouse gas emissions and actively combating climate change.
Uninterrupted Learning: Our new solar array, backed by a state-of-the-art battery storage system, ensures a stable, reliable power supply—meaning no more disruptions during power outages or grid fluctuations.
Smart Savings: The transition will significantly lower our monthly utility overheads, allowing the school to reinvest those funds directly into student resources, technology, and extracurricular activities.
"This isn't just an infrastructure upgrade; it's a living lesson for our students," said Mr. JJ Masime, The School Principal. "We are practicing what we teach in our science classes about renewable energy and environmental stewardship."
A Living Laboratory for Students
The new solar installation will also double as a practical learning tool. Our Physics and geography students will have the unique opportunity to study real-time data on energy generation, battery storage, and consumption right here in School.
What's Next?
The installation is officially complete, and the switch has been flipped! Over the coming weeks, keep an eye out for our new digital "Sustainability Dashboard" in the main lobby, which will display exactly how much carbon emission our school is saving every single day.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the board of management, the technical teams, and the entire community for supporting this bright, sustainable step forward.
The future at Nyagondo Senior School is bright—and it’s entirely solar-powered!
